Support the Flooded Provinces of Central Vietnam, October 2020

Due to the adverse effects of climate change, many cities and provinces of Central Vietnam (Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Trị, etc.) are witnessing the worst floods in decades. As of October 20, 2020, 105 people have died from floods and landslides, millions have been displaced, and many historical sites, including the 300-year-old capital of imperial Vietnam, are being threatened. I am compiling this list so that people living outside Vietnam who care about climate change and environmental injustice can make donations.

What's Happening in Vietnam?

Seasonal flooding, especially during monsoon season between August and November, isn't an uncommon thing in Vietnam. However, due to climate change, these tropical cyclones and floods have been getting worse. After four consecutive tropical depressions and two tropical storms (Linfa and Nangka), many cities and provinces of Central Vietnam have been engulfed with water. A lot of rescue teams dispatched by the government have failed to reach the endangered zones due to the heavy flooding, and some rescue workers were also killed in the process. With two new tropical cyclones forming in the Pacific Ocean, one of which is heading towards Central Vietnam according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the situation is becoming more distressing than ever.

It was very hard for me to compile this list to begin with, because most of the places to donate that are currently available in Vietnam are domestic. That said, if you can find any other credible places that accept donations, please send me an email at [email protected]. I'm going to keep this website updated as the situation progresses, so make sure to check it frequently if you wanna be informed. Thanks. :)
